Aubrie Sellers Puts a Peaceful Spin on Her Blistering ‘Drag You Down’

Aubrie Sellers gives her blistering femme-fatale anthem “Drag You Down” a softer spin in a newly released acoustic video for the song.

Directed by Chloé Aktas and filmed all in one impressive take, the clip acts like a candid roadside moment captured by accident — or maybe a character-building scene from a dark Hollywood movie. It finds Sellers, the garage-country pioneer and daughter of Lee Ann Womack, perched atop a broken down convertible and strumming her acoustic guitar, while the sun slips below the horizon behind her.

It’s peaceful presentation stands in stark contrast to the gritty, punk-rocking official version of the track, but it’s message remain unchanged — all about a rebellious bad girl looking for a partner in crime — and it marks the first in a series of acoustic videos set to accompany Sellers’ upcoming sophomore album. According to her, each one is “meant to feel like little snapshots of life, or little movie scenes pulled for [sic] a bigger picture. We tried to keep them as raw and real as possible, with life still going on in the background.”

Sellers made her debut with the hot and heavy New City Blues in 2016. Still no word on when fans can expect to pick up the new album, but Sellers will make a live appearance this year’s Americana Music Festival in Nashville on September 11 at Basement East.
