BobbyCast Recap: Bobby Bones Talks Artists With Famous Parents, Chats With Aubrie Sellers

On episode of #198 of the BobbyCast, Bobby Bones and crew talked about artists who have famous musician parents. Joining the conversation were Mike D, producer Eddie and KUZZ 107.9 and The Bull 97.3 program director, Brent Michaels. Bobby says the inspiration for the podcast was Aubrie Sellers, who is the daughter of singer/songwriter Jason Sellers and country singer Lee Ann Womack.  Bobby chatted with Aubrie later in the podcast, but first, the group went over some other artists with famous parents.

One of the first parent and child musician combos to be brought up was country legend Willie Nelson and his musician son, Lukas Nelson. Lukas is the lead singer of his band, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, which formed in 2008. Bobby also mentioned Lukas’ involvement in the hit movie, A Star Is Born. He starred in the movie as a member Bradley Cooper’s backing band, and also wrote some songs for the soundtrack.

When talking about artists with famous parents, one can not forget the legacy of the Williams family. Bobby and the crew specifically talked about Hank Williams Sr. and his son, Hank Williams Jr. Even though Hank Jr. was only three years old when his father died, he still followed in his father’s footsteps, starting to sing his dad’s hits onstage at age eight.

Later in the podcast, Bobby called up singer Aubrie Sellers to
get her take on being the daughter of two people in the music industry:
singer/songwriter Pete Sellers and country singer Lee Ann Womack.

“I felt a lot of pressure to live up to, not only what people expected from my parents being successful, but also, I think when people hear me they expect me to sound like my mom or whatever,” Aubrie told Bobby over the phone. “I definitely felt a need to make a distinct stance in the beginning and be like, ‘I’m not my parents. I may have some similarities because of genetics, but I want to do it my way.’ I even tried to keep people from mentioning it, but that’s kind of impossible, so I kind of gave that up quickly.”

Even though Aubrie paved her own way in the style of music that
she performs, there’s no denying the similarities between her voice and that of
her mother’s. Those similarities are something that Aubrie welcomes, and as she
says, came naturally.

“I think our voices sound super similar,” Aubrie says. “I can’t
help that. I literally have her DNA. I grew up on the road too. She
homeschooled me. I was around her all the time hearing her sing all the time,
so it’s just going to be natural that I sound like her a little bit vocally,
but musically, obviously, it’s different.”

Fans can tune into episode #198 of the BobbyCast to hear Bobby talk about more artists with famous parents, including Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus, Rhett Akins and Thomas Rhett, and more.
