Chris Stapleton Surprises Fans at John Mayer Concert in Nashville

Fans at John Mayer’s concert in Nashville, TN on Thursday night (8/8) were already in for an incredible night of music from the superstar artist. Little did they know that things would be kicked up a notch when country crooner Chris Stapleton stepped out on stage at Bridgestone Arena to create a moment unlike any other.

Just one day earlier, the two songwriters came together for a writing session, penning a new smash dubbed “I Just Remembered That I Didn’t Care.” Nearly 24 hours later, the two were ready to perform the track for fans.

“I texted this friend and I said, ‘You wanna do one of your songs or one of my songs?’ And he said, ‘We could do either or we could just write a song and play it.’ I said, ‘Challenge accepted,’” Mayer prefaced the surprise collaboration before Stapleton walked out on stage.

“I’ve done a lot of cool stuff before, but nothing quite like writing a song with the great @chrisstapleton on a Wednesday and playing it live on an arena stage on a Thursday… It’s called ‘I Just Remembered That I Didn’t Care,’ and it’s available now somewhere on YouTube. (And if that wasn’t enough, he sat in on ‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room.’) Thanks Chris for the idea to write a song to perform together, and for being such a creative powerhouse. The afterglow is bright,” Mayer wrote later on Instagram.
