Chris Young and Lauren Alaina curse their tiny hometown in the wounded-hearts duet, “Town Ain’t Big Enough,” a brand new track off Young’s upcoming album release.
Wishing they could end their romantic misery once and for all, the anthemic ballad cuts straight to the heart for anyone who still has to see their ex on a regular basis. Contrasting Young’s burly baritone with Alaina’s crisp, vibrant vocal, the pair sing about the pain that still comes with catching each other’s eye across a crowded room — and it’s clear the spark is not totally gone. Meanwhile, Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney — who is a co-writer on the track — also contributes background vocals, while nostalgic sweeps of guitar and a resolute beat give the impression there’s no going back this time.
“Your friends and mine / Run into each other all the time / Seems like there ain’t no place to run / This town ain’t big enough, for both of us,” goes the chorus.
Young co-wrote the track with Mooney, Cary Barlowe and Corey Crowder, who is also co-producing Young’s upcoming eighth studio album. He’s already released the muscular lead single, “Raised On Country,” and the sorrowful “Drowning” from the set.
