Gone West Makes Country Debut with ‘Tides’ EP

Gone West is quickly becoming one of country music’s most buzzed about new acts (they even landed on Sounds Like Nashville’s 2019 New Country Artists to Watch list!). Comprised of two-time Grammy Award Winner Colbie Caillat, multi-platinum singer/songwriter Jason Reeves, four-time Hawaii Music Award Winner Justin Kawika Young and ACM/CMT-nominated artist Nelly Joy, the group is ready to take the genre by storm with their debut EP, Tides.

The project features four original songs, each of which were penned by the four members of the band. Among them is a song named “Gone West” which is an homage to the group’s bicoastal roots.

“The song and our band name, ‘Gone West,’ explains where the band came from,” Kawika Young tells Billboard. “We’re all from west of Tennessee and when we’re not in Nashville, chances are we’ve gone west – back to Iowa, Texas, California or Hawaii. Each verse is about going to our significant other’s hometown and bringing them to Nashville. It’s autobiographical and our band’s theme song.”

To coincide with the debut of their new project, the group released two new music videos – one for “Gone West” and the other for their song “Confetti.”

While the new band is the focus of each of the veteran performers, fans may recognize the members from previous projects. Caillat is best known for her songs “Bubbly,” “Realize” and “Lucky.” Bandmate Joy was also one-half of country’s JaneDear Girls. The duo saw some success with the Top 20 hit “Wildflower.” Kawika Young, who is engaged to Caillat, previously opened for Cassadee Pope’s band Hey Monday in 2012. Caillat also previously worked with Reeves as he co-wrote “Bubbly” and “Realize.”

Gone West’s Tides is available for streaming and purchase now.
