Hootie & the Blowfish have been spreading nostalgic good vibes all summer on their comeback Group Therapy Tour, and now they’re preaching big-picture positivity with the radio single, “Hold On.”
Filled with Hootie’s famous upbeat, rootsy-rock sound and written by country star Chris Stapleton with Jim Beavers, “Hold On” is the opening single from the band’s reunion album, Imperfect Circle. Much has changed in the 13 years since their previous single, but front man Darius Rucker and the band offer up a message that’s never going out of style. Life is all about leaning on each other, they sing.
“We gotta hold on, we gotta hold on / There ain’t nothing that a little love can’t get us through / We gotta hold on, when it feels like hope is gone / There is a remedy for you and me / We gotta hold on to each other,” goes the uplifting chorus.
Rucker says “Hold On” was the last song the band recorded for the album, but it ultimately made Imperfect Circle feel pretty darn perfect.

“Hold On” is a song that sums up the vibe we’ve had as a band since the early 90’s. Lift each other up and look out for one another. Preorder our new album #ImperfectCircle and give it a listen at the link in bio!

“When I heard it, I was like ‘this is the song,’” Rucker says. Adds bassist Dean Felber, “I remember listening to it in the back of the bus and it was just perfect – what it meant to me and what it would mean in today’s world.”
“I don’t think there was a song that summed up more of a vibe that we’ve had within our band, going back to the early ’90s and sort of lifting each other up and looking out for one another,” dummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld agrees.
Hootie & the Blowfish just finished the Group Therapy Tour, and previously released preview tracks “Rollin’,” “Miss California” and “Lonely on a Saturday Night.” Imperfect Circle comes out November 1.
