Jordan Davis and Julia Michaels Team up for ‘Cool Anymore’ Duet

Jordan Davis and “Issues” hit maker Julia Michaels team up for hand-in-hand duet on the new track, “Cool Anymore,” letting their respective guards down in the name of love.

Written by the pair along with Nicolle Galyon, Ross Copperman and Emily Weisband, it features the sonic swell of an epic romance in the making, anchored by crisp beats and soft-touch guitar riffs. Equally plush are the two artists’ vocal back-and-forth, with each asking the other to drop the “cool” exterior they show the world. “Cool Anymore” is not part of Davis’ 2018 Home State album debut, but there’s no word on whether or not it’s part of his still-unannounced follow up project. For her part, Michaels teased the collab at a recent No.1 party for her first country duet — Keith Urban’s “Coming Home.”

“‘Cool Anymore’ is a song about not taking things too seriously,” Davis says of the track. “We spend a lot of time playing shows and it’s easy to get caught up in it but this song is just a reminder leave work at work. It’s a job, enjoy it. Go out do the music thing and then come back and be a husband and a friend.”

“When I first heard the demo I loved the concept and the melodies,” Michaels adds. “It’s just a fun chill vibe that has a nice little groove to it and makes you smile and feel good. We’re lucky to be able to go home and let loose with the ones we love.”

A suitably unpretentious video for the track was directed by Eric Ryan Anderson. Filmed in empty church, it finds the pair singing to each other and goofing off during a photo shoot, as their voices blend in the song’s inviting chorus.

“You don’t have to be cool anymore / Show me a side that nobody else knows / Drop that act with your keys at the door / Lose the mirrors, I see through the smoke / Save all that for the rest of the world, come on let me love you girl / Don’t you know that I’m already yours / you don’t have to be cool anymore,” it goes.

“Cool Anymore” follows the recent release of another new song from Davis — along with the announcement of a headlining winter tour. His “Trouble Town” is out now, and the Trouble Town Tour kicks off January 10 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Kassi Ashton and Hailey Whitters as opening acts.
