Renee Blair Releases Two New Songs, ‘Summadat’ And ‘Wearin’ It Well’

Newcomer Renee Blair had a double release day last Friday, Sept. 13, releasing new songs “Summadat” and “Wearin’ It Well.” Both tunes were co-written by Blair with help from Jordan Schmidt and Andy Albert on “Summadat,” and Schmidt and Sarah Buxton on “Wearin’ It Well.”

“I’ve only ever released one song at a time before and I have so many songs I’m very excited to get to,” Blair said in an exclusive interview with Sounds Like Nashville. “I think we’re in a day and age now where, you know, Ariana Grande releases two full-length albums in six months. I’m just trying to get as much material as I can out to the fans.”

Blair, a St. Louis, Missouri native, grew up in both country and
urban environments. She attended an all-girl, Catholic high school where the
hot star to listen to at the time was Nelly, but she also spent time on her
father’s farm. Blair says this contrast in her childhood “definitely helped
shape” her style of music, which is country with a bit of a urban flair.

The musical contrast that Blair pulls from is certainly seen in
this lively new crop of music released last week. “Summadat” is a cleverly
written, feel-good song about leaving worries behind and enjoying life. The
song features an incredibly catchy chorus that will undoubtedly lead listeners
to abandon their own worries as well.

“We were actually trying to write a summer song, so the ‘summ’ in ‘Summadat’ actually extended from this summer topic we were on,” Blair says. “Then it was like, ‘I want some more summer,’ and we were like, ‘Yeah, I want summadat,’ and it just kind of fell out and happened.”

The other song released by Blair, called “Wearin’ It Well,” is
also an uptempo tune, but it has a hint of heartbreak behind it. With lyrics
like, “I’ve got my cover girl covering up the tears that I cry,” the song tells
the story of a woman whose heart is broken, but who is determined to go out and
live in in spite of it.

“You go out to a bar, you go out on the town and have fun, and
even though everyone’s there to have fun, drink and have a good time, sometimes
underneath, we’re wearing pain that people don’t know about,” Blair says of the
song. “I know that I’ve been there myself. I want to put on a strong face and
go out with my friends, but sometimes I’ve had a hard day or a hard week, and
it shouldn’t stop you from going out and having a good time.”

Blair says both songs have been connecting with fans in her live
show, with women especially connecting to the story of “Wearin’ It Well.”

“I didn’t have any idea that that would be the case of girls
coming up to me and being like, ‘Oh my gosh, your songs relate to my life,’”
Blair says. “That, to me, is the most amazing feeling in the world. That’s what
keeps me going, and what’s it’s all about. It’s awesome to see the fans
actually connect to my heartbreak because I’m human. We’re all going through
stuff.”
