Jon Pardi mends his broken heart in the new video for the dusty single, “Heartache Medication,” treating the wound with a little line dancing and a pretty girl — who happens to be his real-life girlfriend, Summerfawn Duncan.
Directed by Carlos Ruiz, the clip puts a modern twist on a traditional Western storyline, all about a guy who figured he spend another Friday night drinking his sorrows away. He never expected to actually come out of his funk, but after a few rounds in a few different honky tonks, the shadow suddenly lifts off his heart. It seems the medication he needed wasn’t in a bottle after all.
“This is the first time we ever used choreography,” Pardi says. “We ended up doing practices in my barn at home and Summer and I had such a great time. It was out of my comfort zone, but I love how it came out. I loved being able to dance together, and I think it’s just one of the videos where you just feel good when you watch it.”
“You see his point of view, it’s a little down, a little trippy, then as the night progresses he starts to lighten up,” Ruiz explains in a behind-the-scenes interview. “What I thought about was Into the Void, Requiem for a Dream, Urban Cowboy, and Midnight Cowboy.”
The twangy followup to Pardi’s breakout album, California Sunrise, “Heartache Medication” is the title track to the Golden state native’s next LP, which comes out September 27. He’s currently on the road opening shows for Dierks Bentley’s Burning Man Tour, and will be keeping the dance floors packed this fall on his headlining Heartache Medication Tour, kicking off with two sold-out nights at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium October 1-2.
