Largest Gator

Florida wildlife officials are breathing a sigh of relief after capturing what they claim may be the largest gator they ever dealt with.

The gator, measuring 13-feet in length, was captured out of Shamrock Park in Venice, Florida over the weekend with Animal Services Supervisor Carl Sellitti, Sgt. Tim Bauer, and Deputy Ron Lowen assisting the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. The team reportedly worked together until a trapper arrived to take the gator away.

“According to Supervisor Sellitti, who’s spent 20 years with the SCSO, this may be the largest gator we’ve ever responded to,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Photos of the monster reptile were shared on Facebook, where they received 2,800 reactions and more than 4,000 shares.

Fox News also reports two German shepherds were attacked in the same location the gator was captured last week, and that one of the dogs died. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported on the original story, which says the dogs ran off while momentarily off leash. One of the dog’s handlers said they heard a loud yelp, followed by one of the dogs appearing out of the water.

The other dog’s body was never found.
