Alternative-rock favorites Sister Hazel have removed the electricity — but not the power — from their track “Slow Lightning,” premiering a new acoustic video exclusively on Sounds Like Nashville today (9/10).
Filmed backstage at the legendary Grand Ole Opry, the clip finds the Platinum hit makers famous for 1997’s “All for You” getting back to the barefoot basics of their rootsy sound. Part of their just-released EP, Earth, the passionate track builds like thundercloud in the distance before finally opening up, letting loose as a fitting tribute to stormy, but oh-so-satisfying romance.
The band’s bassist Jett Beres wrote “Slow Lightning” with Andrew Copeland and Grammy-nominee Barry Dean, and says the trio were going for a very specific thematic temperature … cool.
“We love taking strong imagery and tying it in to telling a story,” Beres explains. “‘Our love is like Slow Lightning / Never gonna fade away,’ felt like an old James Dean movie, so we wrote the song that way — with some swagger!”
