Old Southern Moonshine Revival

osmr (4)By John Lindsay –

In this world of cross genre, or genre unspecific country music, few bands separate themselves from the pack.  Old Southern Moonshine Revival is however one of those bands.  On their latest EP “Can You Feel It” this quartet excels at mixing country harmonies, passion, and heart with edge of southern rock.  Songs like “I Love This Life,” “Brand New Song,” and “Come on With It” beg for a spot on today’s country radio, with infectious hooks that will have you singing right along.

Then comes a staple of country music, the loves gone bad songs.  “Heart Won’t Hurt” and “Painkiller” are modern day spins down the heartbreak road.  Which is followed by redemption, in the form of a “kiss my ass” anthem “Waste Another Beer.”  The modern country and rock inspired feel of this collection will have you both singing along and Googling OSMR looking for more.  Which brings us to the only negative thing I can say… it’s just an EP.  6 Songs leaves you wanting to hear so much more!

I recently had the chance to hear them live at the Round Up in Davie, FL with special guest Maggie Baugh.  The small but enthusiastic crowd was treated to 90+ minutes of their high energy live show.  With songs spanning the bands entire catalog and covers from Alabama, and Charlie Daniels, to an inspired Led Zeppelin medley, OSMR showed they are a band that delivers live.

osmr (1)The band Marcus Kiser (Vocals/Guitar), Brent Lain (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Jamie Shaver (Bass, Vocals, & inspired Robert Plant tribute), and Brian Smith (Drums) are a truly cohesive unit who clearly enjoy a variety of influences.  They have an obvious passion that comes through in their songwriting and performing, so rather than mailing it in to an off-crowd Thursday…they took it upon themselves to make sure no one in that room would forget them.
